Research from learndirect Careers Advice has revealed that 60% of guys between19 and 25 have been stretching the truth down at the pub, in a bid to impress friends and people they're attracted to.
Nearly half claim to possess a skill or talent that doesn't exist, boasting about playing the guitar like Alex Turner and having the culinary skills of Jamie Oliver, when the truth is they play guitar like Jamie Oliver and cook like Alex Turner. When work becomes the topic of pub banter, 32% of young men admit to a porkie or two about earning more or having more responsibility than they actually do. More young blokes actually fib about work than they do about success with the opposite sex. 28% admit to being a little 'flexible' when it comes to the facts.
Although pub lies sound harmless enough, the reasons behind these work-related fibs highlight that a huge number are not happy in their jobs. In fact, the research reveals that an alarming 62% of those in full-time work actually want to trade in their current job for something they've always wanted to do.
TV and Radio1 presenter Reggie Yates has come across a few pub Pinocchio's in his time and here he reveals more about the research and what can be done to make those all-important steps to improve a career.
