Newspaper and Trolley Service Volunteer
What would I be doing?
Being a newspaper and trolley service volunteer involves taking goods round to patients, residents, staff and relatives. Many people are unable to visit any on-site facilities, so the newspaper and trolley service can provide some welcome relief from day-to-day routine.
Your duties might include:
- visiting patients and offering them an opportunity to buy things from the trolley
- taking orders from people
- stocking the trolley, and stocktaking
- making sure there is enough money for when change is needed
- keeping records of what is sold so there are enough of the most popular items
- adding up how much goods cost
- cashing up when the trolley run is complete.
What skills would I need?
To volunteer for the trolley round, you should:
- enjoy talking to people
- have excellent listening skills
- be responsible and accurate with handling money
This role may involve a considerable amount of walking!
