If you need qualifications to get the job you really want, the Adult Learning Grant (ALG) can help you pay for course-related costs. So if you’re ready to go back into learning and take charge of your future, read on and see what the ALG can do for you.
What can the Adult Learning Grant do for me?
Your Grant could help you to:
- get promoted
- improve your skills
- get qualifications if you didn’t get them first time around
- continue your learning if you’ve been on another funding scheme like the Educational Maintenance Allowance
- get qualifications more quickly by studying full-time instead of part-time
- gain a qualification to back up your work experience.
How much will I get and what can I use it for?
You can use your ALG for learning-related costs such as books, equipment and travel. Visit the ALG Section on Directgov to find out if you qualify and how much you can get.
Which courses can I do?
You can use the Grant to study full-time for your first full level 2 or 3 qualification. Level 2 qualifications are equivalent to five or more GCSEs at grades A-C or NVQ Level 2. Level 3 qualifications are equivalent to two A levels or NVQ level 3.
You can choose from a huge range of subjects, including:
- Business: administration, website design, accounting, computer skills, advertising
- Construction: electrical, painting and decorating, plumbing, carpentry, bricklaying
- Sciences: sociology, biology, physics, chemistry, psychology
- Health and care: childcare, counselling, dental nursing, fitness instruction
- Services: retail, hairdressing, catering, travel and tourism, customer service.
